It stinks: No post-mortem at Hospicio for almost 3 weeks

MARGAO: The Hospicio morgue and forensic department has not conducted a single post-mortem for the last 15 to 20 days taking it back to its previous position. Four months later, the inquiry in the suspension of the doctor removed for highlighting the plight of the department has still not started.

MARGAO: The Hospicio morgue and forensic department has not conducted a single post-mortem for the last 15 to 20 days taking it back to its previous position. Four months later, the inquiry in the suspension of the doctor removed for highlighting the plight of the department has still not started.
Hospicio has only become a post box where in bodies are brought and sent to GMC for post-mortem. The doctors coming from GMC have communicated the shortage of staff and have clearly stated that they won’t go ahead with the process until the staff strength is beefed up.
This is precisely the same reason why the earlier GPSC recruited doctor despite having vast experience in forensic was suspended by the Medical Superintendent. The doctor had highlighted the problems. However, in the past four months, the system has collapsed and the reasons are visible.
It has also been told that the two other morgue attendants were also subsequently suspended by the management. However, surprisingly even after a mandate of beginning of inquiry within 90 days in suspension, 4 months have elapsed no inquiry has been reportedly initiated into the suspension of the doctor.
A staff of the Hospicio on the condition of anonymity told Herald that the Hospicio staff is undergoing tremendous pressure and stress from the Management and has expressed fear of a fierce reaction from the Hospicio staff.
It may be recalled that the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had visited the mortuary and had reviewed the situation.
The only Minister from Salcete, Vijai Sardesai has said that he is displeased with the chain of events at the Hospicio. “The Medical Superintendent is highly disliked at the Hospicio and by others too who have met her for  emergencies or other purposes. I also have faced a similar disgust at an earlier incident this year,” he said.
Vijai said he will speak to the Health Minister and make him aware about the problems.
The Health Minister has in conversation with the Herald said he would take cognisance of the matter and will take action if the matter is true.
