MARGAO, DEC 29
In a daring burglary, unknown miscreants barged inside the Jain temple at Mugalli in Sao Jose de Areal village Sunday night and decamped with silver items and cash worth Rs 1.36 lakh.
However, the police managed to recover the donation box containing Rs 25,000 cash which was left abandoned from a nearby area.
Maina-Curtorim police informed that the incident occurred between 8.30 pm on Sunday to 6 am on Monday when the culprits effected entry into the temple by breaking open the lock of the main door.
Once inside, the miscreants broke open the door leading to the sacred area inside the temple and laid their hands on three silver items worth Rs 60,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 38,000.
Fortunately, for the men-in-uniform, the miscreants left behind the donation box after apparently failing to open the box.
The box was found meters away from the temple premises and was detected by a police sniffer dog.
That the temple was burgled came to light at around 6 in the morning. Immediately, the matter was intimated to the police, who swung into action and managed to recover the donation box.
The police are investigating into the complaint lodged by one Bharat Doshi.
