ITI students will get Class X, XII equivalent diplomas

PANJIM: Goa government through Directorate of Craftsmen Training has commenced two year courses which will give students certificates on par with SSC and HSSC. 
Craftsmen Training minister Pandurang (Dipak) Dhavalikar said the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary education has resolved to grant academic equivalence to ITI’s NCVT/SCVT course. 
According to Craftsmen Training, a student who has passed Class VIII and chosen a two-year course in ITI will be given the certificate by Goa Board which will be equivalent to SSC. The institute has also said that the candidate has to register with Goa Board as a private candidate offering an isolated subject. The candidate has to also answer compulsorily two language subjects.
A Class X pass candidate choosing an ITI course of two years will also be given a certificate equivalent to an HSSC certificate and same conditions will apply. 
Dhavalikar said Goa University’s Academic Council at its recent meeting also resolved to permit mobility to students who after passing Class X have completed the ITI course of two years. 
There are 10 government ITIs and seven private ones in the State with an intake capacity of 3504 students. There are 41 different trades in which candidates pursue the course.      
Dhavalikar said an aviation courses will be introduced in each district in view of the proposed Mopa airport.
