PERNEM: Pathetic road conditions in Korgao continue to haunt locals and daily commuters. Despite the issue being raised at the gram sabhas, a resolution to take up temporary repair work has just remained on paper.
The roads in the village have turned from bad to worse with potholes resembling to craters. At the last gram sabha, it was resolved to temporary fill up the potholes through the PWD. But, till date nothing has happened. A daily commuter Priyanka Gaonkar said, “I use the roads every day to go for work. Since the last two years the roads have been in a bad state and now the route has developed huge potholes and it’s difficult to commute along the roads especially during heavy rains”.
Chandan Naik, another commuter said, “PWD has miserably failed in completing the road work before the rains and as a result the people are suffering. The panchayat too has failed to provide proper service to people. Rainwater gets accumulated in the potholes due to which one finds it difficult to travel. At least the potholes should be filled up as a temporary measure”.
People claimed several women especially senior citizens find it difficult to travel along the route. Locals have also claimed that many people, who fell off their bikes, sustained injuries while commuting along the route.
