It’s all a bit odd in Volvoi panchayat

Ponda: In a rather odd development in Volvoi panchayat, the Deputy Sarpanch was elected unopposed, but the sarpanch has not been elected despite the post being reserved for women. In the five-member panchayat, three are males who are supporters of the BJP and Independent MLA Govind Gaude, while the rest are women who are reportedly MGP supporters.
When the election for the Deputy Sarpanch was held a few day ago, Digambar Tari who is also the BJP Priol vice- president was elected unopposed.
But when it came to electing the Sarpanch, the lady Panch Anjali Naik who had filed her nomination for the post of sarpanch was proposed by Panch Anjali Vengurlekar but could not get seconded, as none of the three male panchas were willing to second her.
As per rules, the two panchas who had proposed and seconded the name of Tari for the post of the Deputy Sarpanch cannot play the same role, therefore there was no one to second Naik’s name.
When Tari was asked why he did not second her name for the post of sarpanch, he said that he was not approached by Naik to second her name.
Meanwhile, Tari has denied that the two panchas who proposed and seconded him are BJP supporters.
