PERNEM: Other than BJP, none of the other political parties have backed any candidate for Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) polls so it would have a tight BJP backed panel v/s Independent. Few ex chairpersons who were not included in the BJP-backed panel have also filed their nominations as independent. These former councilors were part of the BJP-backed panel during 2015 municipal election.
The 10-ward PMC has ward 1 Parashte-Bedgot and ward 4 Nanerwada reserved for OBC, ward 3 consist of Panciwada- Sarmale- Bunode wada and ward 5 Bandolwada for Women, ward 6 Sawalwada for OBC Women and ward 9 Subanwada for Scheduled Caste (SC). Rest, ward 2 Bagayat, Bhironde, ward 7 Varpe- Mauswada, ward 8 Bazarpeth- Mauswada, and ward ten Kotkarwada are for the general candidates.
The BJP backed panel candidates filed nominations are Prakash Kambli in ward 1, Vishwanath Tirodkar in ward 2, Rakhi Navso Kashalkar ward 3, Usha Nagvekar ward 4, Neha Asolkar ward 5, Trupti Anand Sawal Desai ward 6, Dr. Vasudev Deshprabhu ward 7, Madhav Shivaji Sinai Desai ward 8, Siddhesh Pednekar ward 9 and Vishnu Salgaonkar ward 10.
From the last elected council, only Usha Nagvekar and Siddhesh Pednekar are part of the BJP backed panel, while two ex-councilors Prashant Gadekar’s wife Prarthana and Gajanan Sawaldessai’s wife Gitanjali are contesting since these wards are reserved for women. They are also part of the BJP- backed panel in Pernem.
Two ex-councilors Shweta Kambli and Shradha Mashelkar who are not included in the BJP backed-panel this time, have decided to contest as opposition in ward 2 and 7.
