Calangute: Following allegations made by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte that “be it drugs or prostitution, all illegalities are happening in Calangute”, the Calangutesarpanch Joseph Sequeira hit back by saying that curbing illegal activities in the tourism hotspot is the responsibility of the state government.
Responding to media queries, he said that since the tourism minister has made the comments, then he “must be right”.
“The panchayat had written to the various government departments concerned, including the chief minister, and we had even met the chief minister about all the illegal activities and touts, but till now there is no action forthcoming,” Sequeira said “Who has to look at this and take action? Isn’t it the government? Let them take action. Why are fingers being pointed at the panchayat?” he added.
