Seoula Vas’ ticket to contest was decided by the TMC literally on the last day of filing of nominations after veteran Luizinho Faleiro decided to “pass the baton” to her to usher in a new era and fresh faces entering the poll fray. But she doesn’t agree that her entry was ‘last minute’
“This is not a last-minute entry actually as we have been working in Fatorda for a long time and I have been working since December. It is just that the formal announcement of my candidature has been late, which has been the case with other political parties as well,” she said about her late entry.
BJP is standing on two feet at Fatorda
Fatorda was a two-way contest. But now there is a third challenger in TMC and Vas. So, what makes TMC different from other parties?
“They don’t leave you to know fend on your own. I have my party’s back throughout. They are on the ground with me,” Advocate Vas said.
This constituency has been represented by Vijai Sardesai and Damu Naik for two consecutive terms each. Where does TMC intend to break the ground?
“We do have BJP in our constituency, which is standing on two feet. Both need to be kicked out because the economy is in shambles. In GFP’s case, there is only the name Goa. There are no sentiments involved for the people of Goa. The existing vote bank is now changing. Other challengers are out of the way. We are in a very good position. Quite a large chunk of votes which went to BJP and GFP is going to be in our favour this time,” she said.
Fatorda has always been a hub for development. Will that be a tough narrative to challenge for Seoula?
“I don’t see it as a challenge. Whatever infrastructure one sees in Fatorda, be it the Sessions Court, football stadium, market complex these have been brought by our leader Luizinho Faleiro. He was the one to acquire land for these amenities because Fatorda used to be part of the Navelim constituency, which used to be represented by him. So, all the infrastructure projects have been done by my leader. It is we who can lay claim on these development projects,” the young lawyer said.
With just over a week to go for campaigning, the firebrand lawyer will continue to raise issues. “We are not raising issues for the sake of it. We are doing it for closing them. We forced the government to back down on municipal tax issue,” she said.
According to her, every activist movement has to culminate into politics. “You can solve people’s issues only by being in power. The positive vibes that I am getting are because of the work done as a kawyer. I have very naturally got into politics,” she said.
What if she doesn’t win?
“Whether I win or lose it does not matter. Either way, I am here to work because work never stops. For the next five years, I will reach out to the people and want to be available for them throughout. It is very natural for me to be active,” she said.
