MARGAO: It was stupendous birthday for Celina Coelho Furtado on Sunday who was not only elected as a panchayat member at the first election that she contested, but was also selected by the winning panel to become the new sarpanch.
Celina, who worked as a teacher for 26 years and retired as a headmistress, said tackling the garbage menace would be her main priority besides also taking all the government schemes to the deserving people in the village.
Recalling that Chandor is a heritage village by virtue of being the capital of the Kadamba dynasty centuries back, she said this heritage has to be preserved and conserved.
Celina’s celebrations are tinged with a sense of disappointment too as her husband Felix Furtado was defeated at the panchayat elections.
