PANJIM: The Sandip Jacques-led inquiry committee into the Tiracol golf course project will visit the village for a site inspection on October 7. The government last week decided to form an inquiry committee to investigate whether the land involved in the Tiracol golf course is tenanted or agricultural, with a report to be submitted in three months.
Under Secretary (Revenue) Ashutosh Apte had issued the order to form the committee. The golf course had come under the scanner after the St Anthony’s Mundkar and Tenancy Association filed a petition seeking a stay on the project under the reasoning that the land was tenanted.
Leading Hotels, the developers of the golf course claim the original owners of the land had said there were no tenants or mundkars residing on the land. Villagers, however, claim to have lived there for generations as many have their names registered on the Form I and XIV.
Pending a High Court judgment, the committee will be given the task of investigating whether or not the land in question is in fact tenanted or agricultural or not.
