Jaju laid to rest at Benaulim

BENAULIM: A pall of gloom descended upon Benaulim and Goa as Joaquim João Fernandes, popularly known as Jaju, was laid to rest at the Holy Trinity Church cemetery, here, on Thursday morning. 

A talented Konkani stage actor, known for his love for football and passion for tiatr left for his heavenly abode on April 11, 2023, after he suffered a massive heart attack. His death sent shockwaves in the entire State of Goa.

The Holy Trinity Church bore testimony to the love poured for Jaju as hundreds of people flocked to his residence and the church to partake in the Eucharistic celebration. 

Parish Priest of Fr Anthony Rodrigues was the main celebrant besides there were 11 other co-celebrants for the Eucharistic service which was largely attended by tiatrists, football lovers and GFA executive members and others.

Fr Milagres Dias, chaplain of Carmel Chapel, Curtorim, in his homily described Jaju as a hardworking, loving and caring  person, who shouldered his responsibilities in the field of sports, tiatr and socially as well. He eulogised his virtues towards his family, the tiatr stage, his devotion towards the Blessed Sacrament and humble attitude towards all.

 “He was a devout Catholic and loved to read the Holy Bible and often requested me to explain the scripture to him,” said Fr Milagres. 

Fr Anthony said that Jaju was a good actor, an excellent sportsman and a person who spent much of his time in prayer. Today’s congregation consisted of Hindus, Christians and Muslims, who came to bid their last adieus to Jaju.
