Jal Shakti Ministry appoints three officers to Mhadei PRAWAH Committee

PORVORIM: The Jal Shakti Ministry of the Government of India has appointed three officers to the Mhadei PRAWAH (Progressive River Authority for Welfare and Harmony) Committee. P. M. Scot, Member (RM) of the Central Water Commission (CWC), has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Mhadei PRAWAH Committee.

His tenure will last for three months or until a regular incumbent is appointed, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Virendra Sharma, Chief Engineer of CWC, Bengaluru, has been given additional charge as Member (Monitoring and Regulations) of the Authority, and Ashok Kumar V, Director of Appraisal, Bengaluru, has been appointed as the Secretary.

The order was issued by Subarat K Basu, Deputy Secretary (E-IV) of the Ministry of Jal Shakti. CM Pramod Sawant announced these appointments during the ongoing Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

However, the Ministry of Jal Shakti is yet to appoint two more members, Member (Environmental Issues) and Member (Hydrology), and a full-time Director (Finance).

Additionally, the three riparian States – Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra – will have to appoint their representatives not below the rank of Engineer-in-Chief or Chief Engineer or Additional Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department (WRD). The Mhadei PRAWAH will consist of a total of seven members and will be located in Panjim.

In February this year, the Ministry of Jal Shakti had approved the establishment of Mhadei PRAWAH to comply with and implement the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal (MWDT) award. It was officially notified in May of this year.
