MAPUSA: Saligao MLA, Jayesh Salgaonkar has on Monday condemned the haphazard development along the National Highway with regards to the recent filling of mud into the Mapusa River at the Guirim bypass junction.
It may be recalled that Herald had reported on the illegality last week.
The MLA directed the contractor to stop the work immediately and explain to the people the approved plan. The villagers demanded that they be shown the approved plan as they are unaware of the development planned for their village.
Jayesh said since the river is being narrowed down there will be no place for rain water to collect and hence could worsen the condition of the recent flooding witnessed in Guirim and is nearby areas during the monsoon.
“I called the concerned engineer to explain to the people the process. There is a need for the smooth flow of traffic. They should take the people into confidence and carry out sustainable development. Nobody was informed when this river was filled. I met the official once regarding the Ganesh Visarjan spot if it goes for the construction of the service road,” he said.
