PANJIM: Housing Minister Jayesh Salgaocar has called upon Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar with a demand that Saligao be declared a ‘heritage village’ and be promoted on the lines of heritage village tourism.
Speaking to media persons, Salgaocar said a demand has been placed that the village be declared as heritage village by revamping its lost heritage glory.
“The village has preserved its heritage. Saligao’s Mae de Deus church known for its gothic architecture is one of its biggest attractions. Saligao can be promoted as heritage village tourism destination,” he said.
Salgaocar also called on the minister demanding that the department recommence the Heritage Festival in Saligao, which has not been held for the past two-three years. “The heritage festival had last taken place in 2013. The festival used to showcase and promote Goa’s rich heritage and traditions highlighting Goa’s music, dance, cuisine, art and crafts,” he said.
Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) was organising the festival to mark the World Heritage Day.
