margao: The Goa Jesuit province priests have extended support to the seafarers by providing them with spiritual/mental counselling via whatsapp calling.

Individuals working for welfare of seafarers had approached ICS, ILO & ITF to provide mandatory counselling for all Indian seafarers in view of the delay on part of the government to repatriate seafarers stranded overseas.

“Seeing the delay we approached the Jesuit Province Priests who were very happy to assist the seafarers and their families by providing counselling support”, said Captain Venzy Viegas.

International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) is an organization, which promotes and supports the welfare of seafarers all over the world and provides such counselling.

“In the midst of this pandemic the need of the hour is to be mentally calm and not to stress the mind as we wait for Indian airports to open. The seafarers counselling helpline is a unique initiative and we request all our Seafarers to call this number and discuss your concerns, which will only help in keeping a healthy mind”, added Venzy.
