SANGUEM: Bowing down to the protests from Sanguem locals last week, the PWD has set in action and begun repairing the dilapidated road from Dando Junction to Sanguem Police Station.
The locals after an accident at Dando involving two-wheelers threatened to agitate if the authorities fail to repair the road within a week’s time.
The authorities today deployed the jetpatcher machine at Sanguem Bus Stand to fill the potholes which had developed all along the road, making the use of the road a life threatening affair.
Incidentally, Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai informed the media that the jetpatcher machine was booked by the PWD for Sanguem Constituency long time back and the date for its arrival in Sanguem was given for Wednesday. Phal Dessai claimed that the agitation which was held by the locals at Dando last week has nothing to do with the repair work that started on Wednesday.
Phal Dessai further said “The fresh layer of hotmix from Dando to Sanguem Police Station road will be undertaken shortly as tender for the same was issued in June for an estimated cost of Rs 1.30 crore. The work however has got delayed due to current monsoon season.”
The locals however brushed aside the Minister’s statement and claimed that the statement made by Phal Dessai is only an attempt to save his skin as has proved to be a total failure in terms of development works in Sanguem.
“It is only because of the agitation planned by the locals that the authorities have got their acts together and began repairing the damaged portion of the road,” stated one local.
