The development comes in the wake of a warning issued by director general of National Security Agency J N Choudhary about multiple attacks in selected cities.
Responding to questions on the sidelines of a tourism event on Thursday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar confirmed the security at Chabad Houses have been tightened. “They have been provided security, especially during the prayer hours,” he said adding Goa is on general red alert along with Bangalore, based on the terror threat inputs from the Intelligence Bureau.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police K K Vyas asserted the police force is always on alert. “There is always general security awareness wherein we ensure precautionary measures to thwart untoward incidents in the State,” he told Herald, however declining to divulge further details on the security preparedness.
Choudhary is quoted as saying that the terror groups are likely to launch combined attack on tourist spots such as Goa and metropolises like Bangalore, and other destinations. Sources indicated that the department heads are likely to hold emergency meetings to chalk out detailed security plan with tourist season having commenced. Similarly, international events like the International Film Festival of India, exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier, Christmas and New Year parties have been scheduled from next month when the State is expected to host lakhs of tourists.
Vital installations are the prime locations where the security will be heightened besides the normal nakabandis and bandobast. Alliance Francaise centre in the capital, is also likely to be provided security cover as discussions are underway.
