Jharkhand man arrested for pedestrian’s death in hit-and-run case at Sirsaim

The accused, staying at a resort in Assonora, was traced within six hours by gathering intelligence and analysing CCTV footage; Colvale police seize Goa-registration vehicle

PANJIM: The Colvale Police have managed to locate the vehicle and arrest the culprit involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident at Sirsaim, Tivim, on Wednesday, April 11.

The accused has been identified as Abhishek Verma, 28, from Jharkhand.  The police have also seized the Goa-registered vehicle which was allegedly involved in the accident. Pedestrian Rajendra Chavan, 44, from Satara was killed in the incident. 

According to Colvale PI Vijay Rane, CCTV footage was analysed thoroughly and intelligence was collected. A team of policemen arrested the accused, who hails from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, but is currently residing at Club Mahindra, Assonora.

It was a blind case without any clues, but it was cracked within six hours after we were informed about the accident, Rane said.

The case is under investigation by PSI Vishnu Jadhav of Colvale Police Station under the supervision of PI Vijay Rane and under the overall supervision of Mapusa SDPO Sandesh Chodankar and North Goa SP Askhat Kaushal.
