MARGAO: The Principal District and Session Judge South Goa, Irshad Agha, on Monday convicted Bilkhan Dhung, 25, a native of Jharkhand, arrested by Margao Police for an attempt to murder his wife Poonam Dhung after hitting her with a stone.
Dhung was charged by the police under Section 307 of IPC. However, the court convicted him under Section 326 of IPC.
The public prosecutor VG Costa appeared for the State.
Margao Town Police had arrested Dhung after the attack while his wife was admitted to Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim.
Police registered the case following a complaint lodged by Vasant Varkuri from Pajifond, a supervisor at the construction site at Colmorod where the incident took place.
The Jharkhand native, police said, apparently suspected his wife Poonam of being unfaithful to him and had an altercation with her over the issue and in a fit of anger, hit her with a stone on her head. The police also said that Dhung had regretted his action, and in remorse, had later visited his wife when she was taken to Hospicio before she was lifted to GMC Bambolim.
