PANJIM: The Porvorim police on Friday cracked a murder case within 24 hours with the arrest of her ex-boyfriend and his accomplice in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Kamakshi Uddapnov of Porvorim.
The police gave the names of the accused as Fakir alias Prakash Chunchwad (22) and his friend Nirupadi Kadakal (21), both residents of Socorro.
The girl was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend a few hours after he had given a written undertaking to the Mapusa police that he would not interfere with her. Following sharp differences the girl had decided to end her relationship with Fakir. Mapusa police stated that he continued harassing her and even assaulted her on many occasions. A non-cognisable offence was filed in this regard and Fakir was reprimanded by the police and was left off as he promised not to interfere with her anymore.
Kamakshi was then reported missing from her Porvorim residence on August 30 and a missing case was registered at the Porvorim police station. During investigation, the family suspected that she might have been abducted by her ex-boyfriend.
Accordingly the police registered a case under section 365 of IPC on August 31 and immediately detained suspect Fakir alias Prakash Chunchwad, residing at 20-Point Programme at Socorro. Further during the course of interrogation, the ex-boyfriend attempted to mislead the police by giving wrong facts.
However, the police through technical surveillance and local intelligence interrogated Fakir, who confessed of committing the murder of Kamakshi by stabbing her with a knife multiple times and further disposing the body in Amboli Ghat in Maharashtra late night hours on August 30.
The accused also disclosed the name of his friend Nirupadi Kadakal, who abetted in the crime and help him in disposing the body.
The motive of the crime was that the victim was in relationship with the accused and the former had recently broken up with him. Infuriated by this, the accused committed the gruesome act.
The Porvorim police along with forensic team went to Amboli Ghat and with the assistance of Sawantwadi police and local rescue team located and recovered the body, which was thrown about 50 metres into the Ghat. The body was later sent for preservation at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, pending post-mortem examination.
The police later adduced sections 302 and 201 of IPC against the accused. The police also seized the car used by the accused to dispose of the body.
