JMFC notices to cops for not registering FIR against Mayor

PANJIM: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMGC) at Panjim on Tuesday issued notices to North Goa Superintendent of Police and Panjim Police Inspector to appear in Court on July 1 to explain why a FIR has not been registered against Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado and others in Sunday’s St Inez Creek incident.

Advocate Aires Rodrigues had filed a complaint in Panjim Police Station against the Mayor and others seeking an FIR against them for negligence and endangering public life.
Rodrigues in his complaint to the JMFC submitted that the failure of the police to register the FIR against Furtado was not in accordance with law as the police had failed to comply with the statutory powers, obligations and duties vested in them by the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Rodrigues in his complaint before the police had alleged that Furtado and others committed offences under Sections 280, 287, 304 (A) read with 511 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984.
Rodrigues has also sought that the court monitor the investigation as Furtado is politically very influential.
