JMFC transfers forgery case to special court

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panjim on Monday transferred the application filed by Congress seeking a probe in the alleged forgery by 10 defected MLAs to a special designated court dealing with cases of MPs/MLAs.

Magistrate Shilpa Pandit will hear the application filed in June this year.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar had moved the JMFC in the alleged forgery of documents by its 10 MLAs who defected and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa in 2019.

Chodankar had prayed before the court to direct the Panjim police to register a FIR and to direct the PI and SP North to conduct an independent, free and proper investigation while also asking the court to monitor the investigation and direct the PI to submit timely progress reports of the investigation to the court.

Earlier, the GPCC president had filed a complaint at Panjim Police Station on April 4, 2021, against the MLAs and others and subsequently the complaint was also filed with the North SP on May 5, 2021, against preparing forged documents to create fake evidence.
