Urban Development Minister, Joaquim Alemao has dared Fatorda MLA Damu Naik to prove the so-called scam in the Hyquip project at Sonsodo when the government had not paid a single paisa to the company from the government treasury.
A visibly agitated Alemao dared the MLA to prove the allegations that the government paid huge sum of money to the tune of Rs  2.42 crore and Rs 5 crore to Hyquip from the government treasury.
“The only money SUDA had paid to Hyquip was Rs 68 lakh as 10 per cent mobilization advance towards the project. Presently, the security deposit of the contractor amounting to Rs 18 lakh stands forfeited and the governing body of SUDA has already decided to file a case for recovery of the balance mobilization advance with interest”, Alemao said.
“Where is the question of SUDA paying Rs 2.42 crore of Rs five crore to the contractor. The Fatorda MLA should tell the public from which treasury these funds have gone to the contractor”, Alemao demanded to know, adding that Damu is raising the bogey of Hyquip just because his political rival, Vijay Sardessai was the SUDA vice-Chairman at that time.
Reminding the Fatorda MLA that SUDA had taken given only 10 per cent mobilization advance to Hyquip amounting to Rs 68 lakh, the Urban Development Minister has demanded to know why the MLA has not raised objections to the decision of the MMC to give 100 per cent mobilization advance to Fomento to commence work at Sonsodo.
On the question of irregularities in tendering the project, Alemao said after the Vigilance had raised certain queries, the file was placed before the CM for his persusal. “The file was later vetted by the Law department and only after that the project was cleared by the Cabinet. Where is the question of either Sardessai or I involved in any scam. More so, when no money has been paid to the contractor till date”, he asked.
He said though Hyquip had submitted bills to the tune of over Rs two crore, SUDA has till date not released any funds to the company.
