MARGAO: With elder brother Churchill breaking away from the Congress, Joaquim Alemao on Saturday said that he would stick to the party and work for the South Goa Congress candidate as a party loyal soldier.
He, however, said he is hurt and sad that the party leadership is raking up family raj when he was instrumental in getting Churchill into the Congress from the Save Goa Front in 2007.
Reacting to Churchill’s decision to quit the Congress party with plans to contest as an Independent candidate for the South Goa seat, Joaquim, who returned from Malaysia this evening, said he would work for the Congress candidate in the coming election. “I would go by the dictates of my party high command. I am a Congressman would work for the success of the party candidate”, he said.
Joaquim sounded bitter to PCC president John Fernandes’ statement on family raj, saying that John should know the Congress party had opened the doors for Churchill when the party needed him in 2007. “I was instrumental in getting Churchill from the Save Goa Front into the Congress. As per the deal, the party high command had promised to make Churchill the deputy Chief Minister, but the promise was never honoured. I would like to ask John why the party leaders did not rake up family raj when Churchill was re-joining the Congress when I was already in the Congress”, he questioned.
Replying to a question, Joaquim said he would call on Churchill and sit with him to know the reasons behind his decision to quit the party.
