Jogging track outside Fatorda stadium in darkness for months

Non-functional lights leave residents using the track for evening walks frustrated

MARGAO: Residents, including senior citizens, who use the jogging track outside the Fatorda stadium for their evening walks, are frustrated over the non-functional lights.

The residents complained that they are compelled to walk on the track with no illumination, which has further prevented the youth from playing various games at the site.

Claiming that the area is in darkness for the past several months, the residents have demanded that the authorities concerned take immediate action to repair the non-functional lights.

Milagres Fernandes, a resident, lamented that the several people, who use the jogging track for their evening walks and jogs, have been inconvenienced, as it is unsafe to engage in such activities in darkness.

He said, “Such a massive area is in darkness, as several people including the youth visit the ground for evening walk and to play games. Due to the non-functional lights, it has become risky for people to walk on the jogging track.”

Premanand Dessai, a senior citizen, told O Heraldo that there is no point in having such a beautiful jogging track if people are unable to use it due to darkness.

“It is all dark over here. Usually, more people used to come for walks late evening after completing their work, but now the number has reduced significantly,” Dessai said. The youth also expressed their inability to play football in the evenings due to the issue.
