PANJIM: Goa Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan on Friday, in its final order, said that para teachers who join on or before November 25 will remain in service on contract as per their offer letter, while those who do not join shall forfeit the offer of contract appointment. Sources said that around 15 teachers joined duty on Friday taking the total tally of those who have joined to 59
“Para teachers who have joined duty on or before November 25, 2017 shall be allowed to register for the online portal under NIOS bridge course of six months,” Goa Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan, State Project Director, Nagaraj Honnekeri said.
“All para teachers who join on or before November 25 will continue to remain in the service on contract as per their offer letter while those who do not join shall forfeit the offer of contract appointment,” Honnekeri added.
He said that in-case of any difficulty they can contact Block Resource Centres of respective talukas or State Project office of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
The Chief Minister, after a joint meeting with the striking para teachers and Directorate of Education on Thursday, had decided to accommodate para teachers from the next academic year on regular posts, subject to certain conditions being fulfilled or relaxed within the framework of the RTE Act.
Para teachers were dissatisfied with this assurance, and continued their protest outside the secretariat well into Thursday night. However, on Friday morning the teachers were forced to leave the protest site, the entry point of the Secretariat, Porvorim, after the North District Collector imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the area.
“We want the final settlement this year itself. We have been given many promises in the past, even the Chief Minister as well as the BJP president Vinay Tendulkar promised us regularisation in the past, with the BJP also mentioning the issue in their manifesto but nothing has happened,” para teacher Smita Naik said.
PARA TEACHERS TO JOIN DUTY TODAY
PANJIM: The All Goa Para Teachers Association on Friday temporarily suspended their agitation after getting an assurance from MLAs Nilesh Cabral and Prasad Gaonkar over a written note on their regularisation.
They have also asked the Directorate of Education (DoE) to issue a notice, stating that teachers joining duty by November 25 will be given regular posts or regularised.
The association also said that they would call off their strike if this demand is fulfilled. “We have not called off the strike but have temporarily suspended it. We have asked DoE to issue us a notice, stating that teachers joining duty by November 25 would be regularised,” Para Teacher Association president Smita Desai said.
“We don’t have any more trust in the government and that is the reason we have not called off the strike. We have decided to join duties on Saturday,” said Naik.
