Joint inspection held at Sada landslide site

Work under disaster management to begin within two days

VASCO: Officials from various government departments along with Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Monday conducted a joint site inspection at the Sada landslide site and decided to find a permanent solution to prevent recurrence of landslides.

Engineers from the PWD, Gammon India, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Mormugao Deputy Collector were present during the inspection to find a permanent solution to the issue.

Amonkar said that he had had already asked the Mormugao Deputy Collector to issue a disaster management order and to start the work including the clearing of rocks from the hillock as a preventive measure within the next few days.

“Safety of the people should be our top priority and I will not tolerate any lackadaisical approach by the departments,” said Amonkar and urged the public to stop using the road near the site for their own safety.

He also directed the PWD and the Traffic police to barricade one-lane of the highway and to allow two-way traffic on the other so as to ensure smooth movement of traffic.

“ We are looking for immediate solutions and the work under disaster management will begin within two days,” assured the MLA.
