Joint inspection held to find solution to River Tar issues

MAPUSA: Within eight days after holding a meeting in a bid to work out a solution and give a new lease of life to River Tar, the Mapusa Municipal Council called for a joint inspection to understand the various issues pertaining to pollution, free flow of water, removal of mud, debris etc. 

Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, MMC Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar, Bastora Sarpanch Ranjit Usgaonkar, officials from the Mapusa Urban Health Centre, Electricity Department, Captain of Ports and Water Resources Department along with few prominent local youth were present for the inspection. 

After inspection, it was decided to work out a long term solution by taking onboard all the concerned stakeholders. It was also learnt that there is need for desilting of river as mud and concrete debris were found blocking the free flow of water. 

It was also decided that trimming of trees and shrubs along the river will also be taken up.

MLA Joshua said, “Inspection of the River Tar was held to understand the ground level cause of pollution and other issues. We have to work out a long term solution by going deep into the issue.”

“We will take a holistic approach by taking everyone onboard and suggestions will be taken and work will be executed through the concerned department,” said the MLA.
