Joint inspection identifies 13 dangerous trees in City

PANJIM: A joint inspection of trees in the capital city by a team of officials from Forest Department and Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) has identified 13 trees, which need to be cut.

According to the documents available with the O Heraldo, the team which conducted inspection of the trees has identified 21 trees along the D B Marg from Panjim Gymkhana to Bhagwan Mahavir Bal Vihar Garden, whose branches should be pruned.

Along Altinho Road near Chief Secretary’s bungalow, the team has suggested trimming branches of a Nilgiri tree, along St Inez to Alinho Road, there are two trees located on footpath whose branches should be trimmed.

The team has also suggested prune the branches of a tree located near ITI, Altinho.

From Miramar Circle to Dona Paula, the team has identified 12 trees out of 91 trees which need to be cut. While conducting inspection of dangerous trees along the road side in central Panjim, the team has identified one tree out of 162 trees which need to be cut. The tree is Peltaforum located on the footpath near Indian Terrain.

The joint inspections of the trees were conducted after an order from Tiswadi Deputy Collector and SDM, Rajesh S Ajgaonkar, who had directed CCP Commissioner to take immediate action to trim or cut the trees in order to avoid loss or life and property and any untoward incident.

The inspection has gained significance in view of a teenager losing her life when a tree fell on her near the municipal garden in the city on July 21. The deceased was identified as Arti Gond, a native of Uttar Pradesh, and residing at Betim. It was the third incident of a tree falling in the area. Earlier, some people had a miraculous escape in tree crashing incidents reported on July 18 and 19.
