PONDA: Condemning Union Ministers Prakash Javdekar and Pralhad Joshi for their stand on Mhadei diversion, Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Wednesday accused Joshi of instigating Goans with his remark that Karnataka would continue its Mhadei project despite opposition by Goans.
He said Union Minister Prakash Javdekar dodging Goans by remaining silent on the Mhadei diversion issue.
He said, “Joshi while speaking to a national daily mentioned that Karnataka government would go ahead with the work for the implementation of the Mhadei project as per the award of Mhadei River Dispute Tribunal. On other hand, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said We have filed contempt petition.”
“Despite the BJP governments in Goa, Karnataka and at the Centre why are these different steps taken? Goa Chief Minister should clarify on this”, he demanded.
He said, “The Karnataka government has allocated Rs 500 crore for diversion of Mhadei water. The diversion of Dudhsagar would lead to drying of water flowing into Sanguem, Sanvordem, Dharbandora and Ponda talukas leading to major water crisis in Goa.”
