PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Saturday said that a Court should be mindful in its judgments and ensure its practicability.

The statement comes in the backdrop of Supreme Court hearing the public interest litigation on illegal mining filed by lawyer Prashant Bhushan along with local NGOs.

He was speaking during a two-day global symposium on Global Business and Human Rights organized by Paris-based Union Intermationale des Avocates (International Association of Lawyers) in the capital on Saturday.

Parrikar said the State has been suffering since last September for crime committed by others who indulged in rampant illegal mining.

“The illegal mining was done by some others and we are suffering for it,” he said, adding that the GDP of the State has reduced by 20 percent, due to suspension of mining operation.

The chief minister also sympathized that several thousands have been rendered jobless and are awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court on the matter.

The petition was filed based on a finding of judicial commission led by Justice M B Shah, which pointed to a projected Rs 35,000 crore illegal mining scam in Goa.
