KA repairs still on, State informs HC

The government further submitted to the Bench that the structure will be handed over to IFFI organisers during the annual event scheduled from November 20-28

PANJIM: The State government has informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that urgent repairs of Kala Academy in lieu of the Golden Jubilee of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) have been carried out even as some works are still ongoing.
During the hearing of suo motu writ petition, the government further submitted to the Bench that the structure will be handed over to IFFI organisers during the annual event scheduled from November 20-28.
“The Kala Academy’s art gallery and a few sections have been repaired. Works in other sections are underway,” the government said. The High Court observed that it has taken suo motu of the matter to ensure the structure is not demolished.
During the last hearing, the government had submitted that no decision regarding its demolition has been taken yet but parts of the iconic structure are undergoing repairs for its strengthening.
The Mumbai-based firm, which was tasked with conducting structural audit, had stated that Kala Academy is incapable to handle further pressure with many findings similar to the first report prepared by the Goa Engineering College.
