Kadamba bus breaks down in Tivim at night

50 passengers left stranded; authorities fails to respond for over two hours

MAPUSA:  A Kadamba bus which was on its way from Panjim KTC bus stand to Sal, encountered a critical breakdown in Tivim on Wednesday night. The incident occurred during the last trip of the night, with approximately 50 passengers on board

The bus bearing registration number number GA 03 X 0241 was to ferry passengers through Assonora, Kasarpal, Dodamarg, and Sal. The breakdown was attributed to a malfunction in the recently remoulded front tyre, which heated up and the remoulding detached, leaving the passengers stranded near the Tivim football ground.

There was no spare bus dispatched by KTC to ferry the stranded passengers.

Local residents, who were at the spot, claimed that despite reaching out for help, the authorities failed to respond for over two hours, leaving the driver and passengers stranded on the roadside late into the night.

Some authorities allegedly cited being off-duty, while others simply did not respond to the distress calls. Consequently, the burden fell on the driver to manage the situation.
