Kadamba Plateau residents contemplating to file PIL in HC

KPRAC members, other residents hold ‘Jal Satyagraha’ to press for their demand of potable water supply

PANJIM: Agitated Kadamba Plateau Residents’ Action Committee (KPRAC) members, who have been fighting to meet their demand of water supply, are now contemplating to file public interest litigation (PIL) in High Court pleading for necessary directions to the State government.
The KPRAC members along with other residents on Wednesday held ‘Jal Satyagraha’ pressing for their demand of supply of potable water. The members had in 2017 held a similar Satyagraha following which government had assured them to lay a new water pipeline and resume supply by April 2018.
The residents said that they have been depending on water tankers for their daily water requirement for past 20 years now. They claimed that they shell out around Rs 2,500-3,000 per month for water tankers.
KPRAC secretary Jaya Kundaikar said that government has been giving false promises and deadlines for last 20 years. “The old water pipelines are destroyed as a result of road widening and we are left with no water. Government had promised us to resolve our issue by December 2017 and later by April 2018,” she said.
“However, our problem continues,” she added.
Kundaikar said KPRAC members are contemplating to move High Court with a PIL for justice.
