In a concerning development for Kadamba Transport Corporation, the state-owned transport entity is grappling with significant financial losses. The Chairman of the corporation, Ulhas Tuenkar, has expressed his concerns over the mounting challenges the organization is facing.
The primary financial burden stems from the monthly expenditure of 9 crore rupees designated for the salaries of approximately 2000 staff members employed by the corporation. Despite the commendable commitment to ensuring transportation availability for Goans, the corporation is finding it increasingly difficult to sustain its operations.
Tuenkar acknowledged the crucial role Kadamba Transport Corporation plays in serving the public, especially in rural areas where passenger numbers may be lower. He emphasized the corporation’s commitment to providing essential transportation for those who rely on it for commuting to work or school.
“Even in parts of rural areas where passenger numbers are not optimal, we understand the importance of being available for our Goans. Our commitment to providing reliable transport for people going to work or school remains unwavering,” stated Ulhas Tuenkar.
The corporation currently operates a fleet of 480 buses, catering to the diverse transportation needs of the people across Goa. However, the financial strain has prompted discussions about the sustainability of the current model and the need for potential restructuring to ensure the corporation’s long-term viability.
Government officials are actively engaged in assessing the situation and exploring viable solutions to alleviate the financial burden on Kadamba Transport Corporation. Discussions are underway to identify strategies for optimizing operations, exploring new revenue streams, and potentially restructuring the organization to achieve financial stability.
As Goa continues to depend on Kadamba Transport Corporation for its public transportation needs, finding a sustainable solution is crucial to ensure the uninterrupted provision of services to the citizens of the state. The government remains committed to working collaboratively with the corporation to overcome these financial challenges and maintain a reliable and efficient public transportation system for Goa.
