PANJIM: There’s good news for those interested in performing arts, Kala Academy (KA) on Monday announced that Goa University (GU) has granted them affiliation to start the 4-year Bachelors Degree Course in Performing Arts (Theatre) from the academic year 2018-19.
This course, with an intake of 30 students, has received approvals from the Directorate of Higher Education and Goa University. Kala Academy will be the first in the State to offer such a programme.
Addressing the media, Kala Academy Chairman Govind Gaude said, “The duration of this course will be four years after Std 12 with an intake of 30 students with no age bar. The prospectus shall be available from June 4.”
He added, “The fee for this course will be Rs 1,600 per year. Starting this course was a dream for us as the course currently offered in KA would only give students a certificate. The classroom will be situated in the Kala Academy campus and currently we are in process of recruiting five faculties apart from clerical staff.”
The chairman said a master degree in performing arts will begin from the next academic year. “Master in Performing Arts (Theatre) will be a two year course and begin from the next academic year as currently we do not have students,” Gaude added.
