Kala Academy to undergo state-of-the-art makeover

Alongside it is going to have two auditoriums having 600 and 300 seating capacity

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will lay the foundation stone for strengthening and renovation of Kala Academy complex, Campal-Panjim at 9:30 am on Monday, April 5.

Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, Panaji MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate and other dignitaries will be present at the occasion.

The Kala Academy building which was constructed about 50 years ago will be strengthened and renovated at an estimated cost of Rs about 50 crore. 

The renovation work includes water proofing of the ceiling, civil works and electrical works besides constructing two auditoriums having 600 and 300 seating capacity. Also the black box and art gallery will be repaired and renovated. The renovation work is expected to be completed within a year.

Meanwhile, the Kala Academy office and theatre classes would be temporarily shifted to the Old Secretariat, Panaji while, cultural programmes and other events would be organised at Rajiv KJala Mandir, Ponda and at Ravindra Bhavans.
