PANJIM: Artistes under the banner of Kala Rakhonn Mandd have detested the alleged attempt by Kala Academy to prevent artiste Rajdeep Sardesai from staging his drama “Ganv Zala Zanto” on 16 August by alleging that he violated certain terms of performance. The artistes said that the problems with Kala Academy renovation were voiced by them and even by MLAs in the Goa Assembly.
The letter given by the members secretary to Rajdeep was an attempt to muzzle freedom of speech they said. They listed the problems that persist with Kala Academy.
Narrating the sequence of events the artistes said that on his application to stage his show at Kala Academy on 16th August 2024, a registered letter was sent to his residence on 14th August, knowing that 15th August was a holiday. Somehow, Rajdeep came to Kala Academy to inquire about the permission and learnt that a letter had been sent to his house. He asked for the copy of the letter.
The letter alleged that Rajdeep Naik had voiced his grievances about Kala Academy on social media without intimating the Kala Academy and he should show cause why permission should not be granted to him. Luckily he replied to the letter on that day itself. The letter registered letter reached his house around 20th August and if he had to wait for the letter he would not be able to stage his show.
Artistes said that when the shortcoming at Kala Academy renovation were voiced by MLAs and accepted by the Chief Minister on the floor of the House, this was an attempt to intimidate artistes and muzzle the freedom of expression.
