Kalay locals save Ponda duo from getting washed away

SANGUEM: The timely action of the local youth prevented two Ponda youth from getting washed away at Kalay, Sanguem when their car started to drift in the deep waters at Kalay, Sanguem.

According to available information, the river water suddenly swelled and the two car occupants failed to judge the water flowing in the underground railway canal. After noticing the car and its occupants in danger in the middle of the underground canal, the local youth arranged a rope and pulled the car and its occupants to safety.

It may be recalled that last year a similar incident occurred in the village during monsoon.

The underground railway canal is widely used by villagers and others to proceed to Collem and Mollem from Sanguem and other areas as the distance is reduced by a few kilometres.

For the past several years, the villagers have been demanding the construction of overhead canal in the village to facilitate the villagers to cross the canal during monsoon.

As the canal remains under water during monsoon, the Kalay village gets divided into two. The Pokormoll ward gets totally separated from the main village. Incidentally the construction of the overhead canal is now in the pipeline and is likely to be constructed soon.
