The villagers of Kalay have urged the railway authorities for immediate construction of railway overbridge in the village.
Villagers said the demand for the railway overbridge in the village is pending since the last several years. However, every time the question of the over-bridge comes up in the village, the MLAs and the ministers are only reported to be giving assurances with no concrete solution having cropped up since the villagers have made demands.
In the absence of the overbridge, the villagers, particularly those residing at Pokormol, Kariamol, Thorlemoll and other wards of the village, are facing acute hardship during the monsoon season when the existing railway bridge gets submerged under water.
A villager Vinay Gaonkar said that once the bridge gets submerged under water, the villagers, particularly office goers and students studying at various schools in Sanguem, are compelled to travel additional distance of about 15-20 kms to reach to their destinations.
The villagers residing at Collem, Darbandora and Molem are also hard hit during monsoon, said another villager Adv. Amar Naik.
Naik said the route to Sanguem for villagers residing at Collem, Darbandora and Molem is most feasible and saves lot of time. But in the absence of the overbridge, the villagers’ woes stand compounded but the authorities continue to delay the construction of the much needed railway overbridge even after submission of several representations and resolutions by the panchayat body, said Naik.
With Vinay Tendulkar being elected as member of Rajya Sabha, the villagers have pinned high hopes on Tendulkar getting their demand solved at the earliest.
