Kamat hails govt move to permit return of stranded Goan students

PANJIM: Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat has hailed the decision of the State government to permit Goan students stranded in others States to return home.

Kamat has urged the government to also bring back those Goans, who were on a short visit to other States but stranded due to the lockdown.

“Goan students in other States should apply online with Collector of their respective home district. We will grant permission on case-to-case basis. Those granted permission will have to bear their own travel expense and on reaching the border, they will be taken to our quarantine facility where COVID-19 test will be conducted on them. Based in the report, they will either be sent home or placed under our institutional quarantine,” CM had said on Saturday.

NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar has welcomed the decision as he took to Twitter stating, “Welcome decision by @goacm to permit Goan Students who are stranded in various parts of the country, to return back home. Their parents & families are anxious.”

Similarly, Kamat also hailed the decision with a similar request for other stranded Goans as well. “Welcome decision to allow Goan Students to return back home. As we will touch 43 days of Lockdown on May 3, @goacm needs to work out a plan to permit various Goans who were on short visit to various places within India, currently stuck there & waiting to come back home,” Kamat said.
