I am glad that Congress has started introspecting not only in Goa but at the national level and things will happen in the New Year,” said Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat while talking to Herald about the fate of the party in Goa. “Today we have only five MLAs and that has been a big shock to overcome, but we are dealing with the situation,” he said adding that the need of the hour is to strengthen the party organisation right now so that the party can face the electorate with a positive agenda. He said the party has already started working in the 10 constituencies where the MLAs defected recently and the alternate candidate is being worked out by consulting various sections of society. He said that the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee will have to be reconstituted and that the party leadership will have to first decide about Girish Chodankar’s resignation as GPCC president. Once that is decided, the GPCC will have to be reconstituted afresh as this exercise has not been carried out for long. Refuting charges that there is too much infighting within the Congress, he pointed out that not a single Congress MLA left the party after the 2017 elections when Congress was not asked to form the government despite being the single largest party.
