MARGAO: Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, who is one of the accused in the JICA-Louis Berger bribery case, returned to ‘fort’ Margao after 20 days of drama. He reached his office in Malbhat at 6.40 pm on Wednesday and was instantly surrounded by his supporters, who had been waiting eagerly to congratulate him.
“I am a strong believer of the almighty God, and I trust that He never fails the true and always supports the truth,” said Kamat, who sported a large tilak on his forehead and several threads on his wrist. He also refrained from talking about the bribery case.
While the crowd wasn’t as big as the one on August 5, the spirit certainly wasn’t low. Councillor Damu Shirodkar, Sandeep Painginkar, Congress leader Subhash Faldessai, Avinash Shirodkar, Dorris Texeira and others were present at his office.
“We are with him and will be with him till the end,” said Shirodkar, while Margao local Bhai Naik said, “One crime, one case, one investigating body, one court. Still one gets jail, and one gets bail.”
Abhishek Kakodkar of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha said, “The Crime Branch had an impartial and excellent investigation in the case, and the order of the court needs to be respected.”
Margao Municipal Council chairperson Arthur D’Silva also visited Kamat, and he was seen running for cover when cameras were pointed at him.
