MARGAO: The Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat expressed shock that Goan travellers including elderly people and ladies were given step motherly treatment on their arrival at Margao Railway Station from New Delhi on Saturday.

Digambar said they had to wait till 9 am Sunday morning to receive their COVID test reports, after which they were allowed to move to their respective homes. “This has exposed the claims of the authorities that adequate arrangements were made to take care of all the passengers arriving from other States to Goa. I urge the Chief Minister to immediately intervene and ensure that such incidences are not repeated again,” Digambar urged.

“The Goans who contacted me till 2 am late night complained of non-availability of food and other essential items. They had to spend the entire night sitting on the chairs available at the open stands of Fatorda Stadium. This is completely against humanity. The government needs to be sensitive enough towards the elders, ladies and others,” he said.

Digambar demanded that the Chief Minister should revoke the decision of charging COVID testing fees from the Goans. The government should also seal the borders and allow only stranded Goans to enter Goa.

Pitching for the migrant workers, he said, “It is also important that immediate steps are taken to arrange trains to take migrant workers who are willing to go to their respective home States.”
