Kamat sorts out billing woes of Margao power consumers

MARGAO: Margao MLA and former chief minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday led a delegation of local Councillors, Damu Shirodkar and others to L D Kolvenkar, Superintending Engineer of the Electricity Department, South Goa.

Kamat has resolved the issues of consumers pertaining to power bills. The MLA demanded a separate wing to redress the issues of the people of Fatorda and Margao. The Superintending Engineer has promised that a special counter for the correction of electricity bills will be set up at Margao Electricity Department office and extra counters will also be set up for quick payment of bills.
Meanwhile, Kamat has strongly criticised the move of the Goa government to hike power charges. He said, “The policy of the government should be to charge commercial users and pass the benefit to domestic small time users. However, the recent hike will compel the people with lower incomes to pay almost the same as commercial establishments.”
Kamat has warned of more shocks to consumers in August and September as the exact meter readings and increased charges would reflect in the bills issued then.
Kolvenkar has promised help to consumers in payment of bills. While accusing the previous agency for the mess, he said “The previous agency lost the bill delivery contract and in frustration, gave wrong data while handing over charge, as a result of which, people have been getting higher or identical or delayed bills recently.” He has expressed confidence in fixing the problem in one or two months.
