Residents took to the streets, staging a protest to push for
urgent repairs and reconstruction of the severely deteriorated Belagavi-Goa
highway, which passes through Chorla. Villagers from the surrounding area
blocked the highway at Kankumbi, starting at 8:30 am.
The scene witnessed long lines of vehicles stranded on both
sides of the road. Demonstrators have issued a warning, stating that they will
escalate their protest if authorities fail to provide a concrete solution. This
crucial route connecting citizens from both states has suffered from neglect by
authorities for several years. While the National Highways Authority of India
(NHAI) attempted repairs on some stretches in early June, the substandard
quality became evident as large potholes reappeared within a month.
