Karapur Sarvan villagers unite against illegal scrapyard

Panchayat Body conducts inspection of scrapyard operating without any permissions

The illegal scrap yard business going on at Karapur Sarvan village has been creating a situation of fear and anxiety for people in the surroundings. The scrapyard is operating in the panchayat jurisdiction which falls in ward number 2 in the residential areas. The scrapyard has been operating without permission of local panchayat body. In addition, no fire NOC, no health NOC has been a reason for all the misery arising from noise and air pollution in residential areas of Karapur Sarvan.

Locals have raised this issue in the Gram Sabha at several occasions. Feeling the pressure from the villagers the Sarvan village panchayat body finally visited the site on Saturday for inspection. Villagers residing in ward number two have demanded to stop the operations of the illegal scap yard business immediately.

It may be recalled that few weeks ago a similar scrapyard operating in residential area of Santacruz near Smart City Panjim had been a reason for chaos and fear among the villagers after chlorine gas had leaked. Several MLAs including the MLA of Santacruz Rodolfo Fernandes have demanded shutting down of these illegal scrapyards in Goa that have been mushrooming and expanding every day.
