Strongly opposing the newly proposed mine in the area, the Karapur Sarvan Panchayat has stated that they would resort to agitation to stop the project.
Speaking to media persons, Karapur-Sarvan Sarpanch Santos Talkar said recently a mining activity has started in the panchayat area and some environmentalists have voiced against the activity.
Even though the activities are still at its budding stage, extraction work is on in the area.
“The panchayat has decided to oppose the mining activity and will resort to massive agitation if the activities continue,” said Talkar.
“Many villagers are still dependent on agriculture and if these activities are carried out, all the farms will be destroyed,” he added.
It may be recalled that Karapur Sarvan Panchayat is surrounded by greenery and there are several rare and huge trees in the area.
The residents fear that if mining is started, they would lose all their natural wealth.
