PONDA: Karay-Shiroda residents are facing dire circumstances as their taps have run completely dry for the past 3-4 days, leaving them heavily reliant on water tankers that seem to be struggling to meet the demand.
What started as an irregular water supply problem since November last year has worsened alongside soaring temperatures. Despite their frustration with the government’s neglect, locals have chosen to remain silent, perhaps for reasons known only to them.
The water woes in the Karay area, under Shiroda Panchayat, have persisted since November. Instead of ensuring a regular water supply through pipelines, the Public Works Department (PWD) has heavily relied on tankers. However, the sporadic trips of these tankers have only added to the distress of the residents. A few locals had resorted to spring waters during the later stages of summer, but the lack of rainfall has caused the streams to dry up.
Shiroda heavily relies on the Mhaisal Dam for its treated water needs. PWD sources have attributed the water supply issues to power problems near the dam. The local community has demanded a swift resolution to the power issue to ensure a consistent water supply. Hema Shirodkar, a resident, lamented that the taps have been completely dry for the past 3-4 days, leaving people dependent on spring water or awaiting the arrival of water tankers.
