Kare College gets a reprieve

University reverses decision, allows college to admit 60 students

PANJIM: G R Kare College of Law, Margao can heave a sigh of relief with Goa University (GU) allowing the college to admit 60 students, going back on its previous decision to permit only 38 students in the first year this academic year.
The decision was taken during the GU Academic Council meeting on Monday. “Today (Monday) a special Academic Council meeting was called to discuss the request of students aspiring to join (three year) LLB programme at Kare College of Law. It was decided to restore the strength of LLB program to 60,” GU Registrar Y V Reddy said.
A delegation of BJP Yuva Morcha had attended the meeting where they tried to convince GU that reducing the intake of students will harm their future prospects. GU had reduced the intake capacity this year after the AC had found that the college had bypassed norms by admitting students above the allotted strength in the past.
The college authorities have also confirmed the development. “Yes, GU has allowed us to admit 60 students but we are awaiting official communication,” a college official told Herald.
